Bumped into Ya-Ting (Jessica) Longford Town working in a Asian restaurant, as a waitress, Mekong Asian Street Food restaurant, very popular locally. While waiting I instigated a conversation, Jessica told me that she was only here for ten weeks, and was actually finishing her work experience the following week, so I asked would she be up for a chat, and she kindly obliged.
I did normal school all was good, until I had to go to university there is a entrance exam, I really don't like exam, I didn't do the exam eventually but still got in with my high school scores. I worked part time when at university, high pay, hour to hour, worked using excel. 2-3 year job graduate computer programming, was pretty boring, and only four girls in our class, all the rest were boys. Logic for boys is better than girls, it was something that suited logic more so, the boys took to it easy. One company I worked for for over 2 years, a well known company world wide in cycling community, Alexrims, they big company, and could send you outside of country for meetings.
I don't like boring life, went to Australia on a working holiday, I had to get around my father first, he is a very traditional man, he wanted me to settle down and be a woman/mother with family and settled down. I said I would think about traveling which was a shock to him, I had all booked while I had not told father till the last minute that all was done and booked, he couldn't say no. Australians, don't like Asians much people would say rude things to you on the street, go back to your own country etc. I went to Korea also, the culture was much the same as our own. Worked in a coffee shop in Korea, made obviously coffee and sandwiches. My last chance for a working holiday, I eventually come to Ireland, I wanted the UK, but was too costly, so I came here. One year work and holiday, 8 months working and couple month travel around Europe.
I had very bad English when I start traveling first, I learnt as I worked. I remember in Australia, my boss say I work 12-3, I got mixed up and thought why so short a time, I had thought start at 12 and finish at 12.23. I was better writing English than I was speaking it, I never like English because of textbooks.
Ireland I will say a very friendly place I will like to come back someday to live, people are so nice, when I do waitress, if I make mistake people are so relaxed and say OK, not like that back home, people in general very serious. It's a quiet place Longford Town, I like over a city, experienced my first snow, and Christmas. The weather yes, it's more cold, here, back home, we get 1-2 month winter and you can still wear t-shirt, all year around is like 30 degrees.
Me and a friend will travel for awhile, before going back home, travel few places in Ireland, Cork Galway, go to Iceland which is our dream, aura-borealis, Spain, Venice, south of France, Budapest, Prague, Greece, Finland, then UK, and then home. Love to change my fathers attitude bring different experiences back home. I think everybody should travel and experience other places, give them a richer life.
